Weekly Crop Report and Weather Comments.

Heavy rains during the past week were centered on southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. Flooding causing crop damage has been reported along with mold in corn and soybeans and stalk rot. The wet weather has also stalled harvest. This has been the wettest September in Iowa since 1986. However this situation has not been extensive enough to lower statewide crop ratings significantly.

The weather outlook for the next 5-7 days looks quite favorable with mostly dry weather expected in the western Midwest. Some showers and thunderstorms will return to the Northern Plains early next week with expectations that they will move into the western Midwest by the middle of next week. The eastern Midwest where harvest progress is running near normal levels will be unsettled through the end of this week.

Soil moisture levels in the Southern Plains are much better than they were a year ago. Planting progress for winter wheat is running at or above normal levels. Rainfall will be limited during the next 5-7 days allowing for some rapid planting progress.

Near ideal harvest weather in the Delta and Southeast states during the next 5-7 days with mostly dry weather and warm temperatures.
