Rain Indicated for Southern Plains

OMAHA (DTN) -- A promising chance at moisture for the Southern Plains and consistent patterns in South America are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Thursday.

IMPROVED MIDWEST RAINFALL FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for light to moderate rain over the Midwest during the next seven days. The forecast indicates wider coverage and greater amounts than previous presentations. This would be useful for soil moisture ahead of spring fieldwork.

SOUTHERN PLAINS PRECIP CHANCE

Showers with light to locally moderate rain totals are in store for the Southern Plains through Friday. This event will be watched for some slight drought easing. A series of system are expected next week that will likely miss dry sections in the west, but bring scattered showers to the north and east, again with some easing of drought conditions. This is an important chance for winter wheat with temperatures warming enough for wheat to exit dormancy.

VARIABLE NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

The Northern Plains remain dry and warm through the next five days. A storm system may develop in the middle of next week, bringing much needed precipitation.

DRY TREND IN DELTA

In the Delta, a drier pattern during the balance of the week will help to dry and condition soils for fieldwork.

CONTINUED CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

In central Brazil, prospects continue for heavy rainfall in central and south-central areas for the next seven-day perod. The rain will further delay soybean harvest and safrinha (second crop) corn planting.

MINIMAL ARGENTINA RAINFALL

In central Argentina, pop-up showers during the next few days will not be able to bring much relief to the dryness that has occurred during the last two weeks. This continues to cause concern for immature corn and soybeans.
