More Central U.S. Cold

OMAHA (DTN) -- A continued very cold pattern for the season in the Midwest and Plains, and generally favorable late-season prospects in South America, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

MIDWEST BLIZZARD IMPACT

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for unseasonable cold in the Midwest to continue through the next week to 10 days, especially in western and northern sectors of the region. The very-cold pattern will be stressful to livestock. We are also likely to have delays in travel and transport. In eastern sectors, recent moderate to heavy rain will lead to increased flooding. Significant flooding is possible across the region this coming spring, due to saturated soils, prospects for heavy rain, and snow melt.

HARSH SOUTHERN PLAINS COLD

In the Southern Plains, very cold temperatures for the season are indicated through the next seven days. Temperatures are expected to plunge around 40 degrees Fahrenheit below normal for the season. This very cold air may cause some winterkill damage to wheat. Additionally, the very cold pattern continue to be stressful to livestock.

ADDITIONAL BRAZIL SHOWERS

Across Brazil, rainfall in southern areas, early this week will favor late-filling soybeans while causing some delay to soybean harvest and second-crop corn (safrinha) planting. The rains will also favor growing conditions for the safrinha crop that is already planted and in development. Farther north, central Brazil will have beneficial rainfall for the safrinha corn. Central Brazil soybean harvest is well-advanced.

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA CONDITIONS

In Argentina, periods of showers over the next five to seven days, along with generally seasonal temperatures, will be favorable for filling corn and soybeans along with early harvest.
