Commodities Market Impact Weather
Brazil Dryness Impact
OMAHA (DTN) -- Dryness damage to Brazil soybean crop size, and a wet end-of-year trend in the central United States, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
WET NEW YEAR IN MIDWEST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a round of moderate to locally heavy rain in the Midwest and Delta to finish out the calendar year 2018. The rain will cause some transportation delays. No significant snowfall is indicated.
HARSH COLD WAVE IN NORTHERN PLAINS
Across the Northern Plains, a secondary surge of very cold weather early this week will increase stress to livestock. Following this, the pattern turns much warmer.
LATE-YEAR SOUTHERN PLAINS COLD
In the Southern Plains, a recent snowstorm along with low temperatures has put the wheat crop into dormancy under favorable moisture conditions. No damaging cold is indicated. The snow and cold have also been stressful to livestock and transportation. A warming trend is expected later this week.

PERIODIC NORTHERN BRAZIL RAIN
In Brazil's northern crop areas, favorable conditions are in place over most crop areas of Mato Grosso and Goias. However, dryness is a concern in scattered portions of these two states. The forecast offers daily episodes of scattered showers and thunderstorms. The weather cooled somewhat during the weekend. There are no significant concerns for the early harvest effort.
DRYNESS DAMAGE IN SOUTHERN BRAZIL
In southern Brazil, recent heat and dryness has been stressful to developing soybeans, especially pod filling soybeans in Parana. Some crop losses are expected. Moderate to heavy rain and lower temperatures later in the week will ease stress. Rain prospects will be closely tracked in Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul.
ADDITIONAL RAIN FOR ARGENTINA
In Argentina, central crop areas have mostly favorable conditions for developing corn and soybeans, with adequate to surplus soil moisture and no extreme heat. Local flooding due to recent heavy thunderstorms may be a concern for some fields in Buenos Aires and Santa Fe.
FAVORABLE EUROPE PATTERN
There is currently no significant cold weather impact for winter grain in Europe or the Black Sea region.
CENTRAL CHINA COLD
Central China has turned much colder recently, but it does not appear to have been cold enough to impact dormant winter grains.
WEEKEND SOUTH AFRICA SHOWERS
South Africa crop areas had scattered thunderstorms and lower temperatures during the past weekend. Moisture is favorable for crops.
