OMAHA (DTN) -- Prospects for rain in southern Brazil, and a favorable pattern in Argentina, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

WET MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for wet conditions to delay any remaining harvest in the southeastern Midwest and mid-South, notably the Ohio and Tennessee Valley areas. Quality issues and harvest losses are expected. Next week’s weather may include rain and snow that would affect travel and transport.

SOUTHERN PLAINS SNOW FORECAST

The Southern Plains has a possibly significant winter storm forecast for next week. This could affect travel, transport and increase stress to livestock for a time. The greatest threat for these conditions is through northwest areas.

MOSTLY FAVORABLE NORTHERN BRAZIL TREND

In northern Brazil, crop conditions remain generally favorable. Soybean harvest is underway in some early planted areas. Dryness is confined to the northeast, which is a minor soybean-producing area.

POSSIBLE SOUTHERN BRAZIL SHOWERS

In southern Brazil, forecasts continue to point to good rains during the Sunday through Tuesday time period. Prospects are highest in Parana and Mato Grosso do Sul, but possibly in Sao Paulo as well. This would be important rain to ease recent stress from hot and dry conditions.

DRIER ARGENTINA TREND

In central Argentina, scattered showers and thunderstorms and a variable temperature pattern will favor developing corn, soybeans and sunflower.

VARIABLE SOUTH AFRICA RAIN

In South Africa, a few showers have occurred in maize and sugarcane areas during this week. The heaviest rainfall and highest coverage occurred in the sugarcane region. More rain is needed through western maize areas.
