OMAHA (DTN) -- Closely-eyed rain prospects in southern Brazil, and favorable conditions elsewhere in South America, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST CONDITIONS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a dry and mild week across the Midwest. Late harvest will be completed for many growers; however, wetter conditions in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys are still complicating harvest, with quality issues and harvest losses expected.

MILD IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

The Southern Plains have favorable conditions for winter wheat with above- to much-above-normal temperatures allowing for additional pre-winter growth of the crop under adequate soil moisture.

BENEFICIAL CENTRAL BRAZIL PATTERN

Central Brazil conditions are beneficial for crops. Light showers limit any disease pressure.

SOUTHERN BRAZIL RAIN WATCH

In southern Brazil, hot and dry conditions have dried out soils, and are stressful for soybeans, especially pod-filling soybeans in Parana. Beneficial showers and thunderstorms are expected this week in Rio Grande do Sul; however, they may not occur in Parana until late this week.

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA TREND

In Argentina, scattered showers and thunderstorms, along with moderate temperatures this week, will favor developing corn and soybeans.

VARIABLE SOUTH AFRICA CONDITIONS

South Africa crop areas will have warm temperatures, along with scattered rainfall during this week. Rainfall may possibly be enough to offset the impact from mostly above-normal temperatures.
