OMAHA (DTN) -- Cold and wet conditions for the eastern Midwest, and some variability in South America conditions, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

COLD AND WET IN EASTERN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for episodes of wet and cold weather to continue hindering the remaining corn and soybean harvest in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Quality issues and some crop losses to soybeans are expected. Conditions are more favorable for any remaining corn harvest elsewhere in the Midwest and in the Northern Plains.

STORMY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, winter wheat conditions are generally favorable. Snow in west Texas late last week increased stress to livestock for a time, but mostly south of the Panhandle.

SCATTERED BRAZIL DRYNESS

Across Brazil, a strong jet stream and weak-to-moderate upper level ridging are promoting hotter weather for south and west-central Brazil at this time. This trend is being monitored, but does not appear to be overly concerning unless this pattern holds for a while. Scattered showers should reach into southern areas later this week, maintaining more favorable growing conditions.

STORMY FOR ARGENTINA

Central Argentina has a stormy forecast. Strong thunderstorms developed over La Pampa before moving into west and north Buenos Aires and Santa Fe overnight. Additional strong thunderstorms appear likely during the next few days. Heavy to very heavy rains likely means local flooding. Strong, possibly damaging winds, may occur with this activity.

IMPROVED EUROPE MOISTURE

In northern Europe, recent moderate to heavy rainfall and above normal temperatures have likely improved soil moisture for key growing areas in and near Germany.

WETTER SOUTH AFRICA PATTERN

Across South Africa, showers and thunderstorms developed through maize and sugarcane areas during the weekend. Showers lingered through north and east areas during Monday. Improving and maintaining more favorable conditions for these crop areas. Temperatures have turned lower. The weather during this week looks to be drier and somewhat hotter again.
