OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued variable conditions Midwest harvest, and additional rain indicated for central Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST CONDITIONS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for favorable conditions for Midwest harvest Wednesday. Thursday and Friday may see light rain or showers, with delays possible in northwest and southeast areas. However, many other locations could continue to see favorable harvest weather. A period of light rain moves over the west and east Midwest during the weekend, causing some temporary fieldwork delays.

SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, locally heavy rain will further delay wheat planting in southern areas. Showers will also slow planting in Kansas on Wednesday.

MIXED NORTHERN PLAINS TREND

In the Northern Plains, light rain through the eastern Dakotas may cause delays, at times, to the harvest. Conditions are more favorable for harvesting elsewhere in the region.

NEW ROUND OF DELTA RAIN

In the Delta, rain is indicated for Wednesday night and Thursday. Amounts may be heavy south, and light north. Delays to harvest and seasonal fieldwork are likely. Rain provides adequate to surplus soil moisture for winter wheat.

WEST TEXAS RAIN

Across west Texas, fog, rain and cool conditions Wednesday will be unfavorable for open boll cotton and harvesting. Quality concerns continue. During the next five days, some improvement in conditions is possible as sunny weather redevelops and temperatures turn higher. There is some chance of more rain over the area later in the 10-day period.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL CONDITIONS

For Brazil crop areas, increasing showers from Parana northward to Mato Grosso will favor early planted crops while causing some delay to seasonal fieldwork. Only light to moderate showers will favor planting and development of crops in Rio Grande do Sul during this period.

BENEFICIAL ARGENTINA PATTERN

In central Argentina, seasonal temperatures and episodes of showers are favorable for development of early planted corn and any early soybean planting.

NORTHERN EUROPE DRYNESS

Across Europe, dry conditions with above to well above normal temperatures was noted through west and central Europe during this past week. Portions of France, Germany and western Poland need rain to ensure favorable moisture for prewinter development of winter grains and oilseeds. Significant precipitation during the next five days is mostly for southern and eastern Europe. Longer range, there is some chance for colder weather and added precipitation in west and central Europe during this coming weekend and early next week.

LATE-ARRIVING AUSTRALIA RAIN

In Australia, recent showers and thundershowers in northern New South Wales and southern Queensland are too late to significantly improve the winter wheat crop. The rain may improve soil moisture and irrigation for sorghum and cotton.

VARIABLE SOUTH AFRICA TREND

In South Africa, recent rainfall and cooler weather have improved conditions for planting in key sugarcane areas and in the east and some central areas of the maize triangle. Western maize areas could use more rain to encourage increased planting at this time. The region should turn drier and somewhat hotter during the next few days.
