Rain Stalls Harvest

OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain continuing to disrupt Midwest harvest and additional rain over Brazil soybean areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

MIDWEST HARVEST DISRUPTION

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for extensive Midwest harvest delays due to recent heavy rain and very cool to cold temperatures. Delays are most prominent in western and northern areas. Crop quality may suffer. The forecast does suggest improving conditions due to a drier trend.

WET SOUTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

Southern Plains areas will see continued moderate to heavy rain over the next week. Soil moisture is greatly improved for winter wheat; however, the rain will disrupt row-crop harvest.

SLOW NORTHERN PLAINS HARVEST

In the Northern Plains, harvest remains delayed by rain and snow. The pattern turns drier during the next week, especially over western areas.

RAINY IN DELTA

The Delta has re-developing rain ahead during the coming weekend. Additional fieldwork delays are likely.

SOUTHEAST HURRICANE DAMAGE

Hurricane Michael brought heavy rain and damaging winds to the southeastern U.S. Wednesday. Michael will continue as a heavy rain producer in the Carolinas during the next two days.

WEST TEXAS RAIN

In west Texas, rain associated with post-tropical storm Sergio are expected during the end of the week. Rainfall may be heavy and lead to disruption of cotton harvest.

MORE COLD IN PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, a continued cold pattern through the weekend will bring additional delays to harvest, with crops hit by recent snow.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL CONDITIONS

Central Brazil continues with periods of rain and favorable soil moisture for soybean development.

VARIABLE AUSTRALIA MOISTURE

Australia wheat areas will have periods of rain over the next week. Recent rainfall has offered some benefit in Western Australia. New South Wales and Queensland remain dry, with substantially-reduced crop projections.

SOUTH AFRICA SHOWER CHANCE

In South Africa, scattered thundershowers are indicated through the coming weekend. Rain would improve soil moisture for planting.
