OMAHA (DTN) -- A rainy week in the western Midwest, and periodic showers for Brazil soybean areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST HARVEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain and cool weather to cover the western Midwest this week. This combination is unfavorable for harvest. Eastern Midwest areas have drier and milder conditions.

FAVORABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

The Southern Plains have favorable conditions for planting and developing winter wheat. Some additional beneficial rainfall is expected later in the week and in the 10-day period.

CHILLY WITH SHOWERS IN NORTHERN PLAINS

The Northern Plains will have a cold and unsettled pattern, which is unfavorable for harvest. Freezing temperatures over the past weekend were not of major concern, as most crops are no longer vulnerable to cold damage.

DRIER IN DELTA

The Delta will have improving conditions for fieldwork during the next week as drier and warmer conditions dominate the region.

VARIABLE PRAIRIES PATTERN

In the Canadian Prairies, freezing temperatures will help to firm the ground and improve conditions for harvest, following recent wet and in some cases snowy weather. Southern and eastern areas have additional precipitation and harvest disruption Tuesday.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL RAIN PATTERN

In central Brazil, enough rain is expected to occur in Mato Grosso during the next week to support developing soybeans and allow for additional planting. Meanwhile, favorable conditions for planting and developing soybeans are in effect in Parana.

USEFUL BLACK SEA RAIN

The end of September brought favorable rainfall to wheat areas of Russia and Ukraine. Conditions are more promising for seeding and early development of the next winter wheat crop.

DRY MONTH IN AUSTRALIA

The month of September saw no more than 20% of average precipitation in major Australia wheat areas. Crop prospects continue to decline.
