OMAHA (DTN) -- A milder midsummer Midwest forecast, and very little rain for the Black Sea region, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

LIMITED MIDWEST HEAT STRESS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a limited heat threat in the Midwest over the next 10 days. Temperatures do not appear to be hot enough to significantly affect reproductive crops, except possibly in the southwest. The northwest to north-central areas may see scattered thundershowers later this week. Soil moisture is currently adequate in all but the southwest sector, and even surplus for crop needs in northern areas.

SOUTHERN PLAINS HEAT

The Southern Plains will have drier and hotter weather in most areas this week. This combination will increase stress to developing summer crops while favoring the later-maturing wheat crop and the final harvest effort.

BRIEF SHOWERS IN WEST TEXAS

West Texas had scattered thundershowers during the past weekend, with light benefit to cotton. Shower chances continue through Tuesday, with near-normal temperatures. The pattern turns drier and hotter beginning Wednesday.

VARIABLE NORTHERN PLAINS FORECAST

Northern Plains areas will see a variable temperature pattern with some hot weather during the next five days. Conditions mostly favor development at this time. The drier, hotter weather may increase stress somewhat during this period. The pattern turns cooler with some rainfall later in the period.

PRAIRIES RAIN CHANCES

After a hot weekend, the Canadian Prairies are expected to turn cooler this week with episodes of scattered thunderstorms possible, beginning Tuesday. If verified, this should help ease dryness concerns in the region.

MINIMAL RUSSIA RAINFALL

In the Black Sea region, temperatures have cooled in south and east Ukraine and south Russia during the past week, helping to ease stress to summer crops in the areas. However, it is still very dry in much of this area. There is little relief to the dry weather pattern during the next five to seven days. A few showers may occur but these appear light. Temperatures near to mostly above normal, warmest in southern Russia region.

FAVORABLE IN NORTHEAST CHINA

Northeast China will have scattered thundershowers with a variable temperature pattern during the next week. Mostly favorable conditions are in effect for corn and soybeans.

VARIABLE CENTRAL CHINA RAIN CHANCES

Central China had scattered thundershowers during the past weekend. Moderate to locally heavy showers and thundershowers occurred in southeast and northwest areas. The southern sector of the region is prone to receiving heavy rainfall from super typhoon Maria by midweek. The North China Plain has more varied rainfall prospects from the storm.

MEANDERING INDIA MONSOON

India monsoon rains have retreated south and east from last week's position. This likely means hotter temperatures through northwest and north-central India. The activity should gradually move north again during this week, especially into central interior India and the Ganges plain. It is uncertain how much of this activity would reach northwest India or Pakistan.
