Favorable Midwest Prospects
OMAHA (DTN) -- A favorable combination of temperatures and precipitation in the Midwest, and drier conditions resuming in Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
BENEFICIAL MIDWEST PATTERN
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for conditions to present few if any concerns in the Midwest. Planting progress is ahead of average in the east, and is rapidly increasing in the west. Soil moisture and temperatures are also favorable for developing crops.
VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS
Moderate to heavy rain in the eastern portions of the Southern Plains wheat belt occurred during the past weekend, and is favorable for heading and filling wheat. More precipitation is still needed in southwestern areas.
FAVORABLE IN NORTHERN PLAINS
Conditions are generally favorable conditions for planting and developing spring wheat, corn and soybeans throughout the Northern Plains.
DELTA RAIN
In the Delta, moderate showers during the weekend and early this week will bring slight easing of dryness. We will be watching the Gulf of Mexico this week for any impact from increasing tropical moisture.

POSSIBLE TROPICAL ACTIVITY
Forecast models suggest tropical moisture will move northward out of the Caribbean and may reach as far north as the Gulf Coast states by this coming weekend. Development, if any, would be slow to occur. However, rains are still expected to move north. The highest risk for heavy rains, at this time, appears to be for Florida with a secondary risk in the southeast U.S. However, uncertainty in the forecast leaves the door open to rains in the southern Delta as well.
VARIABLE PRAIRIES SHOWERS
The Canadian Prairies have favorable conditions for planting spring wheat and canola at this time. A portion of Manitoba received beneficial rain during the weekend. A second disturbance may bring favorable showers to the eastern areas again late this week.
DRIER BRAZIL TREND
Moderate to heavy rain occurred during the past week in almost all central Brazil crop areas. This will ease stress to pollinating and filling corn. However, the dry season remains well-established, with further losses to later-developing corn likely.
LIGHT RAIN FOR CHINA
Northeastern China row crop areas needs additional rain. Showers are forecast during the coming week and will offer some improvement in soil moisture.
MORE AUSTRALIA DRYNESS
Australia's wheat areas remain in the throes of a dry pattern. Rain is needed in Western Australia to support wheat planting. More consistent rain would benefit in eastern areas.
FAVORABLE INDIA MONSOON OUTLOOK
Seasonal forecasts from the India meteorological agency indicate a high probability for the 2018 monsoon season to bring at least average precipitation. This is a favorable seasonal forecast for India summer crops.
