OMAHA (DTN) -- An active weather pattern for the Midwest, some rain chances for the Southern Plains, and rain later this week for central Brazil are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

RAINY OUTLOOK FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for an active weather pattern for the Midwest for this week and in the six- to 10-day period. Frequent episodes of scattered showers and thunderstorms will be disruptive to corn and soybean planting. However, this is very favorable soil moisture conditions for developing crops.

POSSIBLE RAIN AHEAD FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

More rain is needed to support the jointing and heading winter wheat crop over western portions of the Southern Plains. Some beneficial rain is possible during the next seven days. More favorable moisture conditions are expected over eastern areas.

VARIABLE NORTHERN PLAINS FORECAST

Conditions are favorable for spring wheat planting in the Northern Plains. However, due to the late planting of the crop, some acreage may shift to corn and soybeans. The weather is favorable for corn and soybean planting. In the six- to 10-day outlook, temperatures will be variable and rainfall below normal.

HOT, DRY IN DELTA

In the Delta region, hot, dry weather is depleting soil moisture and is increasing stress on developing corn, especially any in early pollination.

MAINLY DRY PATTERN FOR PRAIRIES

The Canadian Prairies are seeing favorable weather for planting spring wheat and canola at this time. Some light to locally moderate rain is expected on Thursday followed by a return to dry weather. The overall weather pattern looks to be on the dry side during the next 10 days. This will favor planting, but will be unfavorable for crop development if it continues.

SOME RAIN LATER THIS WEEK IN CENTRAL BRAZIL

Hot, dry weather in central Brazil depletes soil moisture and increases stress to pollinating and filling second-crop corn. Crop losses are ongoing. Some beneficial rain is possible late in the week, with possibly 1/4 to 1 inch of rain with locally heavier amounts. The strong cold front will also bring cooler weather to help ease crop stress.

MIXED CHINA MOISTURE CONDITIONS

There are generally favorable moisture conditions for filling crops in China's main winter wheat and winter rapeseed areas. More rain would benefit northern and western areas that grow corn and soybeans.

MORE RAIN NEEDED IN AUSTRALIA

Rain is needed in Western Australia to support planting. More consistent rainfall would benefit eastern areas.
