DTN Market Impact Weather
Western Midwest Rain Focus
OMAHA (DTN) -- Moderate to heavy rain targeting the western and northern Midwest, and minimal rain benefit for central Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.
MORE WESTERN MIDWEST RAIN
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for continued favorable conditions for planting and early row crop development in the southern and eastern portions of the Midwest. Meanwhile, rainfall that occurs this week will slow fieldwork and planting over the western and northern Midwest.
HOTTER CONDITIONS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS
In the Southern Plains, recent rainfall will help improve conditions, somewhat, for wheat development in parts of the region. However, the drought areas of west-central and southwest Kansas, southeast Colorado, west Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle missed out on this activity and continue under stress. The drought areas may not see much rain during the next 10 days. Temperatures average well-above normal through Friday, maintaining stress to jointing and early reproductive wheat, before it cools off for a time.
WARMER IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains planting progress will improve this week due to warmer weather. A brief cool spell is expected later in the week. Rainfall chances increase somewhat during this week, but mostly for the southern part of the region.
DRY AND WARM IN DELTA
In the Delta, continued warm and dry weather through the weekend is favorable for planting and crop development.
VARIABLE PRAIRIES PATTERN
Warmer weather continues for a couple more days in the Canadian Prairies before a brief cold snap moves in. Another warming trend is in store at the end of the week. Temperatures overall are more favorable for fieldwork and planting. Dryness will become of increasing concern following planting. Longer-range outlooks suggest that this drier pattern might continue well into the spring and possibly the early summer.
LIGHT BRAZIL RAIN
Brazil's central crop areas have light to moderate rain in the forecast for this week. The rain will offer some benefit to second-crop (safrinha) corn. However, the onset of drier and hotter conditions in the past month has reduced prospects for production.
AUSTRALIA DRYNESS CONCERN
Planting season for wheat in Australia nears with some early planting in central Queensland. Dryness is of increasing concern in West and southeast areas. Showers at the end of last week has provided a welcome boost to soil moisture in southern South Australia and in Victoria, but more rain is still needed. Key growing areas of Western Australia remain fairly dry.
