OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain forming in the Southern Plains and variable conditions in the Midwest over the next week are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

MIXED MIDWEST TREND

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a widely variable situation for Midwest fieldwork and corn-planting. The northern half of the region is significantly delayed due to cold and unsettled weather during April. Growers in the southern Midwest, however, have more normal conditions ahead through the weekend, which will offer some opportunity for planting progress. Forecast models suggest a favorable warming trend by early May across the region.

WEEKEND RAIN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Some significant rain is forecast over the Southern Plains during the next 48 hours. The rain will benefit drought-stressed winter wheat.

CHILLS REMAIN IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains fieldwork remains delayed due to recent cold conditions. Moderation is indicated in the six- to 10-day time frame, which may offer an improved situation for progress.

HEAVY RAIN FOR DELTA

Delta producers have moderate-to-heavy rain indicated to move into the region during the coming weekend. The rain will keep soil moisture well supplied for newly planted crops.

BENEFICIAL BRAZIL CONDITIONS

Brazil's central crop areas have a mostly beneficial pattern of temperatures, periodic showers and soil moisture for second-crop (safrinha) corn. The crop is into its pollination and filling stage.

NEW ROUND OF RAIN IN CHINA

In central China, soil moisture for developing winter wheat is mostly favorable. Some additional rainfall is expected during the next week.
