OMAHA (DTN) -- Blizzard conditions from the Central Plains through to the northern Midwest, a dry outlook in the Southern Plains, mostly favorable conditions in Brazil, and a warm, dry pattern in Argentina are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW IN MIDWEST, NORTHERN PLAINS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy snow in the northwest Midwest to affect transportation, especially in areas under blizzard and winter storm warnings. Six to 12 inches of snow are expected with this system, although localized areas could get up to 18 inches. There is no significant cold weather indicated during the next seven to 10 days.

WARMER, DRIER IN ARGENTINA

A warmer, drier pattern is seen for Argentina for the next few days. Limited rainfall and near- to above-normal temperatures decrease soil moisture and increase stress on developing corn and soybeans, especially pollinating corn at this time. This situation bears watching. The best chance for showers appears to be Friday with 1/4 to 3/4 of an inch of rain, with locally heavier amounts.

FAVORABLE BRAZIL CONDITIONS

Favorable conditions are seen for developing soybeans in southern Brazil. Drier weather in central Brazil favors maturing soybeans and the early harvest. However, it does deplete soil moisture for filling soybeans.

NO PRECIPITATION FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Mostly dry weather continues for the Southern Plains with no significant precipitation in sight. No damaging cold weather is indicated during the next 10 days.

RAIN EXPECTED FOR SOUTH AFRICA

More rain is needed to support developing corn in South Africa. Some beneficial rain is expected during the next seven days.
