Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain indicated for the northwestern Argentina crop areas, and ongoing favorable conditions across Brazil, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

MIXED ARGENTINA FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for hot conditions through Friday in the main corn and soybean areas of Cordoba, Santa Fe and northern Buenos Aires. Reproductive crops will be under some stress during this period with high temperatures exceeding 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius). Cooler weather during the weekend will ease stress, as will scattered to widely scattered thunderstorms. In the south, the main sunflower region and minor corn and soybean areas of La Pampa and southern Buenos Aires continue under a more extreme weather pattern. Longer periods of hotter weather and shorter periods of lighter showers mean increased stress to these crops and a likely reduction in yield potential, especially for any reproductive crops at this time. High temperatures are expected to be 95 to 102 F (35 to 39 C) through Friday.

FAVORABLE CENTRAL BRAZIL PATTERN

Central Brazil has again favorable crop conditions. Rainfall is consistent, with beneficial soil moisture for crops.

WEEKEND SHOWERS FOR SOUTHERN BRAZIL

Southern Brazil remains in a mostly favorable crop weather pattern. Far southern areas are somewhat drier, but appear to be in line for favorable rain during the coming weekend.

COLDER IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains areas will have a notable colder trend in temperatures during the next five days. The extent and duration of the colder pattern will bear watching for possible adverse impact to wheat. Snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday, along with strong winds, will increase stress to livestock for a time.

MIDWEST WINTER STORM

The Midwest will see rain changing to snow through northwest areas Thursday and in the eastern areas Friday. Snowfall of 2 to 6 inches is expected with some heavier amounts possible. Heaviest amounts are likely in northeast areas later in this timeframe. Some ice storm development is also possible in the Ohio Valley. Cold weather follows, but nothing that looks to be damaging for winter wheat. In the western areas, snow and strong winds in eastern Minnesota and Iowa Thursday will likely delay transport in some locations and cause increased livestock stress. Drier, but cold, conditions are in store through the weekend.

COOLER SOUTH AFRICA TEMPERATURES

South Africa had cooler weather and scattered to widely scattered showers and thundershowers during the past couple of days. This should help ease stress to developing to early reproductive maize in the area. The pattern continues to feature near to above normal temperatures but with occasional periods when scattered thundershowers become possible.
