Commodities Market Impact Weather
Forecast Rain Poses Fieldwork Disruption
OMAHA (DTN) -- A wet Midwest and Delta forecast and only light rain for Brazil's winter corn areas are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Thursday.
RAINY MIDWEST FORECAST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain in the eastern and southern Midwest during the next week. This precipitation will be unfavorable for fieldwork and spring planting. Recent temperatures may have been low enough to damage winter wheat and any emerged corn. Temperatures will rise next week, allowing improved crop prospects in areas which have less rainfall.
SOUTHERN PLAINS CHILLS AND STORMS
In the Southern Plains, well-below-normal temperatures and hard freezes during recent days may have damaged wheat and emerged corn. A system next week may bring widespread showers to the region and may benefit drought areas, but also contain severe weather risks.
COLD AND DRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS
Northern Plains temperatures below normal will continue through the next week. Drought continues as well. A system next week shows more potential for widespread moderate showers, but there remains uncertainty.

SHOWERS AND COLD IN DELTA
The Delta had another night of freezing temperatures, possibly damaging to wheat and emerged soybeans. More widespread showers and above-normal temperatures are expected this weekend and again next week. Heavy rain poses disruption for planting.
RAIN FOR SOUTHEAST
The southeastern U.S. has had abnormally dry conditions develop in some sectors on the U.S. Drought Monitor. Moderate to heavy showers will move through this weekend, offering dryness easing but causing delays in planting.
STILL DRY IN PRAIRIES
The Canadian Prairies region continues to be in drought. Another front will move through Thursday and Friday with more moderate snow showers in Alberta but less elsewhere. A cold pattern is also indicated to linger through the weekend until more moderate temperatures develop next week.
DRY SEASON IN BRAZIL APPROACHES
Primary Brazil central and southern crop areas continue with only light rain showers in the seven-day forecast. The end of the rainy season appears to be starting for central Brazil. This is unfavorable for the safrinha corn crop which has largely been planted later than average.
RAIN FOR ARGENTINA HARVEST
Primary Argentina crop areas continue with heavy rain for central crop areas through the next seven days. The rain will disrupt harvest progress.
DRY PATTERN IN EUROPE
Most crop areas of Europe have below-normal rain in the 10-day forecast. This drier trend is unfavorable for wheat and rapeseed crops. The dry trend adds to stress from a recent strong cold wave.
SHOWERS IN BLACK SEA REGION
Scattered showers continue in the forecast for Russia and Ukraine through the weekend, bringing favorable soil moisture for greening and developing winter wheat in Russia and Ukraine.
