OMAHA (DTN) -- Widespread rain in the Midwest forecast and a mixed rainfall pattern across Brazil are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Tuesday.

WETTER PERIOD FOR MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a wetter pattern in the Midwest during this week. A few storm systems are expected to move into the region and stall, with periods of moderate showers continuing through the seven-day period. This should help to increase soil moisture for some of those drier sections of the region.

LIGHT SOUTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

The Southern Plains will have several occurrences of light to locally moderate showers this week. Disruption to row crop fieldwork will be brief. There will likely be a lack of showers for southwestern areas, stressing developing winter wheat.

VARIABLE NORTHERN PLAINS MOISTURE

In the Northern Plains, several weather systems are indicated to move across the region during the rest of the week. However, precipitation continues to bypass the driest areas of the region. Moderate showers are indicated for South Dakota and eastern North Dakota, but not for the hardest-hit drought areas farther west.

RAIN FOR DELTA

Across the Delta, the past weekend was dry with favorable conditions for fieldwork. A couple of storm systems will move through the middle of the country during the next seven days, with periods of moderate to heavy showers. This will likely cause planting delays.

MIXED BRAZIL RAIN PATTERN

Brazil has a mixed rain pattern in store. Central areas have frequent showers in the forecast with favorable moisture for second-crop (safrinha) corn. Very little shower activity continues over the south, in a reversal from last week.

Showers over the central growing areas will be necessary to keep soil moisture from falling early due to later planting dates and the start of the dry season, which will come in a few weeks. Dryness over southern areas will start to cause a concern if frontal systems cannot move north from Argentina.

RAINY ARGENTINA FORECAST

Moderate to heavy rain is in store for much of central Argentina through the balance of the week. This would be untimely for maturing crops and could cause quality issues along with harvest disruption.
