OMAHA (DTN) -- Increased Midwest soil moisture and harvest-disrupting rainfall in the Brazil forecast are the primary weather features for the commodity market's attention Monday.

IMPROVED MIDWEST SOIL MOISTURE

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly dry conditions in the Midwest during the first half of the week. Rain and snow in the northern and eastern areas during the past weekend brought favorable soil moisture, including snow amounts of 10 to 15 inches from southern Wisconsin to northern Indiana. Soil moisture increased for much of the region outside the northwest. Another system will move through Thursday into Friday with chances for more moderate precipitation for much of the region.

DRY WEEKEND IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Across the Southern Plains, the past weekend brought heavy precipitation for eastern areas but left western and northern areas dry. Rain and moderate snow are indicated during Wednesday and Thursday in the driest areas, offering some potential moisture for winter wheat. The snowfall would be important for wheat ahead of a cold wave moving through the region during the coming weekend.

COLD WAVE FOR NORTHERN PLAINS

The Northern Plains were mainly dry during the past weekend. The coming week features a strong cold wave, with temperatures plunging to well-below-normal values by the weekend. This pattern will be stressful to livestock and will hinder transportation. The colder pattern remains in place through at least the 10- to 14-day time frame.

MIXED BRAZIL RAIN

The past weekend saw scattered rain in western Brazil crop areas with heavy rain and possible flooding across the south. Rain has caused some harvest delays but is also beneficial to filling crops. Northeastern areas continued to be mostly dry, potentially damaging reproductive to filling corn and soybeans. Showers this week will be more scattered; however, late week brings more rainfall prospects.

VARIABLE ARGENTINA RAIN

Argentina's north and central crop areas have moderate to heavy rain during the past weekend with a notable benefit for reproductive to filling corn and soybeans along with some local flooding. Southern crop areas had lighter rain. Scattered showers continue through Wednesday, followed by a drier pattern through the following week.
