OMAHA (DTN) -- A short-duration cold spell in the interior United States and improved moisture for world wheat regions and in central Brazil crop areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

MILDER MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a cold pattern in the Midwest to moderate to more seasonal conditions during the balance of the week. This milder trend will be favorable for harvest progress along with post-harvest fieldwork.

WINTER STORM IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Snow and freezing rain are again affecting the Southern Plains. This precipitation is favorable for winter wheat. Meanwhile, the winter conditions are unfavorable for cotton and will be stressful to livestock for the next few days before a more moderate trend develops.

WIDE TEMPERATURE CHANGE IN NORTHERN PLAINS

Northern Plains areas have very cold conditions during this early week. The cold adds to recent snow in the region to disrupt harvest. The cold is also stressful to livestock. A warmer and drier pattern in the five-to-10-day period will be favorable.

HURRICANE RAIN FOR DELTA

Delta and Southeast crop areas have moderate to locally heavy Hurricane Zeta rain indicated through the next week. This rain will delay cotton harvest and will be unfavorable for cotton quality.

CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

Central Brazil crop areas have a continued forecast for moderate to heavy rain during the next week. This rain will offer additional improved soil moisture for soybean planting and development. Brazil soybean planting is about one-fourth complete and is two weeks later than average due to early season dryness. Meanwhile, southern Brazil will have only light rain. Planting in southern Brazil is off to a slow start due to dry conditions.

LIGHTER ARGENTINA RAIN

Central Argentina has light rain ahead during the coming week. Soil moisture has had favorable recharge from recent moderate to heavy rain. However, the drier trend will bear watching.

FAVORABLE RUSSIA RAIN FORECAST

Russia wheat areas have a promising round of moderate to heavy rain in the seven-day forecast. This would be the best moisture for wheat areas in the past three months and would be useful for wheat ahead of the dormancy phase.

SHOWERS FOR EASTERN AUSTRALIA

Eastern Australia wheat areas continue with periods of showers forecast in the next seven days. This rain may be damaging to wheat quality ahead of harvest.
