Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Additional dry conditions for Midwest harvest and shower prospects for central Brazil are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

ONGOING DRY MIDWEST PATTERN

The DTN Ag Weather forecast calls for an ongoing dry pattern across the Midwest with seasonal to above normal temperatures through the next seven days. This combination remains favorable for crop ripening and harvest progress.

CONTINUED DRY IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains crop areas will remain dry during the next week. This will be favorable for winter wheat planting. Near to above normal temperatures will assist in germination.

DRY AND WARM IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, dry and warm conditions through the remainder of the week will benefit crop ripening and harvest. The drier trend will benefit livestock as well.

LIGHT DELTA PRECIPITATION

The Delta has mainly dry conditions through the balance of the week. This pattern is favorable for harvest.

MORE SOUTHEAST RAIN

The Southeast has additional rain from former Hurricane Sally in the next three days. Coverage will be widespread in the Carolinas. Portions of the region had from 10 to 30 inches (250 to 750 millimeters) rainfall in the past 24 hours with flooding and crop damage.

CENTRAL BRAZIL SHOWERS

Central Brazil crop areas have widespread showers indicated over the next seven days, including coverage in Mato Grosso. Increased showers suggest the prospect of an average beginning to the central Brazil rainy season; this is being closely watched. The average starting date for the central Brazil rainy season in the past 30 years is Sept. 26.

LIGHT ARGENTINA RAIN

Argentina continues with very little rain in the forecast for central crop areas over the next seven days. This is unfavorable for wheat and for row-crop soil moisture ahead of planting.

FAVORABLE PRAIRIES PATTERN

The Canadian Prairies have scattered light precipitation and above normal temperatures in the 7-day forecast. This combination will favor wheat harvest.

STILL DRY IN RUSSIA

Russia wheat areas have only rain in the 7-day forecast. Crop areas are in need of moisture following a mainly warm and dry pattern during the past several weeks; in many locales, 60-day rainfall has totaled no more than 50% of normal.

MIXED AUSTRALIA RAIN FORECAST

Eastern Australia wheat areas continue with a moderate to heavy rain forecast through the next seven days. Areas to benefit include South Australia, interior New South Wales and Queensland. Rainfall would be favorable for developing wheat.
