OMAHA (DTN) -- A mixed rainfall pattern across the Midwest and beneficial rainfall in Australia wheat areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

VARIABLE MIDWEST RAIN

The DTN Ag Weather forecast calls for variable rainfall across the Midwest during this mid-August time frame. The past weekend featured locally heavy rain and flooding in the mid-Mississippi Valley. Other sectors of the region had mostly light activity. The week ahead features rain chances focusing on the southern and eastern Midwest for moderate to locally heavy rainfall totals. Western Midwest areas have mainly light amounts. Temperatures will be seasonal across the region. Crop conditions remain favorable in the Midwest despite drought in western areas.

SOUTHERN PLAINS SHOWERS

The Southern Plains will have periods of showers through this week over all but the far southwestern areas. Showers will benefit filling row crop. West Texas continues to be hotter and drier with ongoing stressful conditions for cotton.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS CONDITIONS

Northern Plains crop areas have favorable crop conditions. The past weekend brought occurrences of shower and thunderstorm activity with light to moderate rain. Additional storms are indicated during the coming week.

MIXED DELTA AND SOUTHEAST RAIN

Delta and Southeast crop areas have a mixed rainfall pattern through the next week. Southeast coastal areas have moderate to heavy amounts indicated. Delta and interior Southeast areas have mainly light showers. Temperatures show a warming trend as well. Some heat and dryness stress is likely forming in portions of Arkansas and Tennessee.

VARIABLE PRAIRIES RAIN

In the Canadian Prairies, rainfall during the balance of this week shows a northern focus. Drier southern areas will have only light amounts. Notably dry areas of Saskatchewan will have limited precipitation.

MIXED BLACK SEA RAIN

In the Black Sea region, light rain is in store for Ukraine through southern Russia during this week. The light moisture is unfavorable for row crops. Farther east, portions of Siberia have moderate to locally heavy rain which will benefit spring wheat.

BENEFICIAL AUSTRALIA RAIN

Moderate to locally heavy rain formed over the past week in both western and eastern wheat areas in Australia. This is timely rain for developing wheat.
