Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Scattered rain chances for the Midwest during the next week and severe weather damage in portions of the Brazil safrinha corn areas are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.

MORE FREQUENT SHOWERS IN EASTERN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a higher chance of more frequent showers in the eastern Midwest during the next week. The rain prospects suggest a less-stressful pattern than the sector has seen during the past week. Elsewhere in the Midwest, periodic showers and thunderstorms in the western portion of the region will maintain favorable crop moisture.

VARIABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN PATTERN

Southern Plains rainfall will vary widely during the next week. The western half of the region will be dry. The eastern half has periods of showers and thunderstorms in store, with heavy amounts possible in southeastern Texas. Rain-deficient cotton areas of West Texas have no appreciable follow-up moisture in store after receiving moderate to locally heavy rain during the past weekend. More than a third of the Texas High Plains cotton crop is rated poor to very poor.

MORE NORTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Northern Plains, showers and thunderstorms continue to move across the region, supporting good soil moisture where they occur. A few spots remain dry where the showers have missed. A few disturbances will move across the region with scattered showers through the middle of next week, keeping overall favorable prospects for developing crops.

ADDITIONAL RAIN FOR DELTA

Delta and Southeast crop areas will have periods of showers and thunderstorms through the week. These occurrences will maintain favorable crop prospects. Some local flooding is possible.

STORMS FOR PRAIRIES

A new round of showers and thunderstorms is indicated to cross the Canadian Prairies during the next few days. Precipitation from the storms may lead to some crop areas having excessive soil moisture. Temperatures will turn notably lower as well, leading to slower crop progress.

SCATTERED BLACK SEA RAIN

In the Black Sea region, a cold front crosses the region during Tuesday through Thursday, offering light showers in Ukraine. Russia will have no appreciable rain from this system.

NORTHERN EUROPE RAIN

The European continent has two storm systems on tap to bring rain to much of the continent this week, especially the north, benefiting developing summer crops. France may be left out of the showers. And after a wet early start to the week, the southeast will become drier, benefiting the winter wheat harvest.

SOUTHERN BRAZIL STORM DAMAGE

In southern Brazil, the safrinha corn crop in Parana sustained significant damage from wind and hail over the past week. The storm damage adds to crop loss due to dryness earlier in the season. Farther north, Mato Grosso continues to have a dry pattern for harvest.

ARGENTINA FROST

In Argentina, overnight low temperatures dipped near or below the freezing mark over the weekend and showers were scarce, putting interior central and southern winter wheat areas under further stress. Very little chance for rainfall is expected this week and temperatures may continue to fall near or below freezing as well, further stressing wheat.

SOUTHEASTERN AUSTRALIA RAIN

In eastern Australia wheat areas, the past weekend featured showers in Victoria, but very little elsewhere. Queensland is notably in need of additional rain. Some showers may develop in Queensland later in the week.
