OMAHA (DTN) -- Periods of rain to cross the central U.S. through the coming weekend and a dry weekend forecast for the Black Sea region are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.

ADDITIONAL MIDWEST SHOWERS

The DTN Ag Weather forecast calls for scattered showers across the Midwest Thursday to maintain favorable growing conditions. More widespread, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Friday through the weekend to keep up with moisture demand from developing crops. Scattered showers are likely to continue over western areas next week with some concern about returning dryness in the east.

WEEKEND SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

Mainly dry and hot conditions Thursday in the Southern Plains will favor wheat harvest. Widespread moderate showers are in store Friday and Saturday. This rain event will likely delay winter wheat harvest. Periods of isolated to scattered showers will continue next week as a system stays off to the west, further delaying harvest but bringing good moisture for summer crops.

SCATTERED NORTHERN PLAINS RAIN CHANCES

Showers are indicated Thursday and Friday in the Northern Plains. Widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected. This would be important moisture following recent dryness in the western sector of the region. Additional rain chances are featured in the seven-day forecast. Moderate drought covers the western half of the region.

FAVORABLE DELTA AND SOUTHEAST CONDITIONS

Delta and Southeast crop areas will have scattered shower and thunderstorm activity through the remainder of the week. These occurrences will maintain favorable crop prospects.

SHOWERS TO CROSS PRAIRIES

Scattered showers will move through the Canadian Prairies through Friday. Some of the drier areas in the east may see more moderate rainfall, which would be highly beneficial to developing spring wheat. Another storm system is in store early next week, providing additional showers to the drier southeastern areas.

DRY WEEKEND IN BLACK SEA REGION

In the Black Sea region, scattered showers have diminished. A drier trend is indicated through the end of the week. This pattern may be stressful to filling wheat and summer crop development.

VARIABLE EUROPE PATTERN

In Europe, showers over the eastern half of the continent continue to provide adequate to surplus moisture for developing summer crops. A new storm system will spread showers over western areas Friday and Saturday. Warm to hot temperatures in western areas will continue through the weekend before cooling toward normal as rainfall develops.

MIXED BRAZIL RAIN

Central Brazil crop areas have mainly dry conditions forecast through the end of the week. This drier trend will be favorable for additional safrinha corn harvest progress. Moderate to heavy rain is indicated for southern crop areas, benefiting winter wheat but disrupting harvest.

SOUTHERN ARGENTINA DRYNESS

In Argentina, northern crop areas have the highest prospect for rainfall through the balance of the week. Wheat areas farther south are in need of additional precipitation. Also, cold air forecast through the weekend may cause frost and freeze potential for portions of the central and western crop areas.

FAVORABLE AUSTRALIA CONDITIONS

Australia wheat areas continue with mostly favorable moisture for developing wheat. Queensland is still in need of additional rain.
