OMAHA (DTN) -- Heavy tropical-related rain in the western Midwest and an ongoing prospect for hot and dry conditions in the Black Sea region are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

HEAVY MIDWEST RAIN FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain from former Tropical Storm Cristobal to focus on the western Midwest Monday and Tuesday. Some flooding is possible, with some recently dry areas having benefits from the rain. Milder and drier conditions are indicated for the region after the rainfall event.

STRESSFUL SOUTHERN PLAINS HEAT

Stressful heat that covered the Southern Plains through the past weekend is in store again early this week. Showers and thunderstorms are in store for the northern sector Tuesday. The remainder of the region will stay dry. Conditions favor wheat ripening and harvest.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

Widespread light to moderate rain occurred in the Northern Plains during the past weekend. Additional moderate to locally heavy rain is in store early this week in eastern areas. Seasonal temperatures following the rainfall will be favorable for developing crops.

VARIABLE DELTA RAIN

The Delta will see some occurrences of heavy rain from former Tropical Storm Cristobal during the next two days. Soil moisture benefit will be variable due to rainfall not reaching all sectors of the region.

SCATTERED SOUTHEAST RAIN

In the southeastern U.S., scattered rain is forecast during the coming week. Recent tropical system rain largely bypassed the region. Near- to above-normal temperatures should help foster rapid crop and pasture growth.

WIDESPREAD PRAIRIES RAIN

Most of the Canadian Prairies received moderate to heavy rain during the past weekend. The balance of the week will be drier. A new rain system is indicated during the coming weekend. Crop conditions are favorable.

VARIABLE BLACK SEA CONDITIONS

Across the Black Sea region, scattered showers were confined to mostly Ukraine and northwestern Russia over the weekend. Showers have been limited in southern Russia, where stress and long-term moisture deficits remain large. A heatwave building into the region this week will cause significant stress to the drier areas of the region.

MIXED EUROPE FORECAST

Across Europe, scattered showers fell over much of the continent over the weekend. Some moderate to heavy showers fell in the drought-stricken northwest, especially in Germany, helping to reduce some of the stress on wheat and developing summer crops. Scattered showers have continued to provide beneficial moisture to wheat and summer crops in the east. Scattered showers will continue over most of the continent this week. A heatwave will likely develop over the north late this week and into next week. If showers are not enough to produce adequate soil moisture earlier this week, stress will likely develop.

HEAVY SOUTHERN BRAZIL RAIN

In Brazil, moderate to heavy weekend rainfall again was Mato Grosso do Sul to Sao Paulo and south, bringing benefit to corn and cotton and developing wheat. Dryness in the north continues to be a concern for reproductive to filling corn and cotton in the central and northern areas while allowing for harvest progress. Periods of showers again look to stay confined to the south through next weekend and may cause some areas of flooding instead of being overly helpful.

NORTHERN ARGENTINA RAIN

Argentina weekend rain was confined to the far north. Soil moisture is adequate to somewhat short in the central and south and some stress to developing wheat may be occurring. Showers will continue over the north through much of the week, but southern areas will remain rather dry.

FAVORABLE AUSTRALIA CONDITIONS

Australia wheat areas have moderate rain in the forecast for midweek moving from west to east. This rain system will maintain favorable soil moisture for wheat crop development.
