OMAHA (DTN) -- Arctic cold headed for the central U.S. and variable rainfall in South America's forecast are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

COLD MIDWEST FORECAST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a sharp turn in Midwest temperatures from much-above normal to much-below normal. This colder pattern will curtail further warming of soils to support fieldwork and early planting. The colder trend is indicated to linger through the next two weeks. Precipitation will be variable, but prevalent enough to hinder soil drying.

POSSIBLE SOUTHERN PLAINS COLD STRESS

In the Southern Plains, much lower temperatures over the next week will bear watching for possible impact on jointing wheat. Precipitation will be variable: light west and moderate east. Western areas continue to need additional crop moisture.

HARSH NORTHERN PLAINS COLD

Northern Plains temperatures will turn much lower during the balance of the week. Low temperatures this weekend through the middle of next week may dip into the single digits above zero. This will be a very stressful pattern for livestock and will put a hold on fieldwork. River basin flooding is also in store due to melting snowpack.

WET DELTA FORECAST

The Delta will see renewed rain during the balance of the week, leading to further disruption in fieldwork and planting. Amounts will be moderate to heavy.

SHOWERS FOR CENTRAL BRAZIL

In Brazil's crop areas, rainfall continues in the forecast for central and northern areas. Southern areas will be drier with additional crop stress. Crop estimates continue being pared back in Brazil.

COOL BUT DRY IN ARGENTINA

Central Argentina continues with a dry and cool pattern through the end of the week. Mature areas will likely benefit while the second-cropped soybeans still filling may incur stress due to dryness.

LIGHT BLACK SEA PRECIPITATION

In the Black Sea region, only light rain is forecast through the next five days. Dryness is a notable feature in South Russia. Ukraine will turn drier as well with this light precipitation.
