Commodities Market Impact Weather

OMAHA (DTN) -- Heavy Midwest and Delta precipitation next week, and variable conditions in South America, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

MOSTLY DRY WEEKEND, THEN HEAVY RAIN IN MIDWEST NEXT WEEK

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for a few dry days with little precipitation through the weekend. Another system should bring a few waves of heavy rainfall to the south in the early to middle part of next week. Wet soils continue to be a concern. Warmer temperatures should produce some snowmelt in the north. Some harvest activities may resume in the improving conditions though soils will remain very wet.

ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURES, RAIN IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Temperatures will rise to above normal by the weekend. Another system could bring widespread rainfall and some snow early through the middle of next week.

NORTHERN PLAINS SNOWMELT

Temperatures rising above normal into next week may help to relieve some soil moisture and melt some snowpack. This may be enough for some to return to harvest activities, though soils remain quite wet. Moderate to heavy snow may return to western portions of the region in the middle of next week as a system slides down the Rockies.

HEAVY RAIN IN DELTA NEXT WEEK

Drier conditions are expected through the weekend but another storm should bring a few waves of heavy rainfall in the early to middle part of next week. This will be a slow start to fieldwork this spring with limited dry periods.

FAVORABLE CONDITIONS IN SOUTHERN BRAZIL

Over the south, conditions are favorable for filling soybeans. Farther to the north, scattered showers and thunderstorms continue over the major growing areas, providing plenty of moisture for newly planted cotton and safrinha (second crop) corn. Showers may be persistent enough to cause some harvest delays to soybeans. Areas off to the northeast continue to be left out of the rainfall and crop damage has likely occurred.

MOSTLY DRY IN ARGENTINA

Conditions will be mostly dry with temperatures increasing this weekend into next week. Overall, conditions are favorable for filling corn and soybeans in the short-term, but showers will start to become necessary as soils dry next week.

ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURES IN BLACK SEA REGION

Above-normal temperatures continue for the next 10 days. Soil moisture is still below normal in many areas of Ukraine, but there do appear to be several chances for meaningful precipitation in these areas in the forecast.
