Commodities Market Impact Weather
Rain in Southern Brazil, Flooding in Parts of Midwest
OMAHA (DTN) -- Southern Brazil rain chances in the next five to seven days and heavy to very heavy rains leading to possible flood concerns in the United States are key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
MIDWEST RECOVERING FROM WEEKEND STORMS
The DTN Ag Weather forecast calls for heavy to very heavy rain from Missouri and Illinois to Michigan and Ohio and southward into the Delta that happened during the weekend. This likely means flooding, possibly severe flooding, and impacts to winter wheat and to transport. There was snow or ice along with strong winds over the west-central and north-central Midwest with this system. This had a significant impact on travel and transport as well. A new storm during this week, Thursday into Friday, will bring more problems for travel, transport and winter wheat.
SOME RAIN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS
For the Southern Plains, recent and forecasted rain and thundershowers favors winter wheat in southern and eastern areas. West-central and northwest areas could still benefit from more rain or even snow at this point. Livestock in the feedlots of the southwest came under some stress due to light freezing rain late last week. There are no major concerns for livestock this week, but with an active southern branch jet stream, this region will bear watching.
VERY COLD FOR NORTHERN PLAINS
In the Northern Plains, no significant precipitation is expected during the next seven days, although some light snow may occur at times in eastern areas. The region will see episodes of low temperatures, possibly very cold at times. Increasing stress to livestock can be expected during periods of very cold weather.

POSSIBLE SOUTHERN BRAZIL RAIN
In Brazil, weekend rain with more rain likely during this week improves prospects for crops in Rio Grande do Sul. Less hot weather is also likely. Episodes of showers and no major heat in the Parana, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goias areas favors developing crops these areas. Mato Grosso could use somewhat more rainfall and less hot weather at this time.
SHOWERS IN ARGENTINA
Episodes of scattered showers and a variable temperature pattern mostly favors crops in Cordoba, Santa Fe, north and east Buenos Aires in Argentina. Although some locations may still benefit from more rainfall. La Pampa and southwest Buenos Aires continue to see somewhat warmer or hotter conditions overall and less rainfall. However, enough rain and cool weather will occur to prevent significant declines in yield potential at this time.
NO COLD THREATS IN BLACK SEA REGION
In the Black Sea region of Ukraine and west Russia, there are no significant cold weather threats during the next seven to 10 days.
PRECIPITATION FOR CHINA
Winter precipitation and no major cold snaps will favor overwintering crops at this time in China. This should supply favorable moisture for the crops as they break dormancy in the spring.
INCREASING RAIN IN EUROPE
West-central and southwest Europe may see increasing rain later this week through early next week along with a turn to lower temperatures. Crops through southwest Europe will benefit from the added rainfall but may need to keep an eye on the colder weather. Crops in west-central and northwest Europe do not need any more precipitation at this time. The weather pattern is mostly neutral for these crop areas.
DRIER, WARMER TREND FOR SOUTH AFRICA
Recent showers and lower temperatures have favored maize and sugarcane crops. However, a trend towards below-normal rainfall and near- to above-normal temperatures this week will bear watching.
PERIODIC RAINS IN INDIA
Periodic rainfall and a variable temperature pattern favors developing to early reproductive crops in the India at this time.
