Commodities Market Impact Weather
Slow Midwest Harvest
OMAHA (DTN) -- Rain bringing further Midwest harvest delays, and variable rain prospects in Brazil soybean areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Tuesday.
DELAYED MIDWEST HARVEST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for the western and north-central Midwest to have episodes of heavy rain through Wednesday. The risk for further flooding remains high. Frost and light freeze conditions later this week are possible in far northern areas. Wet and cold conditions are unfavorable for maturing corn and soybeans. The combination of delayed crop development and the wet and cold weather pattern could lead to major issues with high moisture levels in crops at harvest.
WET AND COLD IN NORTHERN PLAINS
In the Northern Plains, cold and snow from last weekend have been stressful to livestock in much of Montana. Wet fields due to the weekend rain will mean additional harvest delays for spring grains. A frost and light freeze will end the growing season in some corn and soybean areas during this week. Milder conditions are indicated in the 10-day forecast.
SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN
In the Southern Plains, periods of thunderstorms are bringing rainfall to improve soil moisture for winter wheat planting. Locally heavy rainfall will cause some delays in progress.

HARSH COLD IN PRAIRIES
In the Canadian Prairies, hard freeze conditions have ended the growing season in western and central areas. Late-maturing crops are likely to incur damage and quality reductions. Wet conditions due to recent rain and snow will also disrupt harvest efforts.
VARIABLE BRAZIL PATTERN
Brazil's crop areas have variable temperature and precipitation trends over the next week. Soil moisture is improving for soybean planting.
MORE EUROPE SHOWERS
In Europe, showers continue in the forecast, which will improve soil moisture for winter grain planting.
BLACK SEA REGION SHOWERS
Ukraine and western Russia are likely to see light to locally moderate showers and improving soil moisture conditions during the next week.
LIMITED AUSTRALIA RAIN CHANCE
In Australia wheat areas, a multi-year drought has significantly reduced wheat prospects. Eastern Australia has been the hardest-hit. Western Australia may see some rain later this week. South Australia, Victoria and southern New South Wales have recently received needed rains. However, very hot conditions are expected to form in these areas over the next few days.
