Heavy Midwest Rain

OMAHA (DTN) -- Continued heavy Midwest rain, and cold and wet conditions in Northern crop areas, are the key weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

WET IN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for heavy Midwest rain this week, especially through the western and north-central sectors. The risk for further flooding remains high. Frost and light freeze conditions later this week are likely to occur in far Northern areas. The wet pattern, along with colder temperatures, will lead to delays in crop maturity and harvest disruptions. Widespread freeze conditions are not indicated.

WINTRY IN NORTHERN PLAINS

In the Northern Plains, snow and cold increase stress to livestock through central and west Montana. Wet fields due to weekend rain will mean harvest delays for spring grains in the region. A frost and light freeze may affect late-developing corn and soybeans through central and east areas this week.

SOUTHERN PLAINS RAIN

In the Southern Plains, periods of thunderstorms will bring rainfall to improve soil moisture conditions for winter wheat planting. Locally heavy rainfall will cause some delays in progress.

WET AND COLD IN PRAIRIES

Moderate to heavy rain and snow occurred in the Canadian Prairies during the past weekend. Storms and cold were damaging to crops. Light precipitation and continued cold are in store this week.

CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

Brazil's central crop areas had rain during the past week, with more expected this week. The rain will improve soil moisture for soybean planting. Mato Grosso planting is just over 1% complete, lagging the 4% total of a year ago at this time.

EUROPE SHOWERS

In Europe, additional showers are indicated this week, which will improve soil moisture for winter grain planting.

SHOWERS FOR UKRAINE

In the Black Sea region, light to moderate showers have occurred since late last week. The region is likely to see continued showers during the next week. Western and northern Ukraine would benefit the most from this activity.

VARIABLE AUSTRALIA RAIN

Eastern Australia wheat areas will remain dry and very warm to hot during the next five days. Western Australia wheat areas may see some rain Thursday into Friday. Wheat prospects continue to decline.
